Gilded Karakusa Headdress

A gilded headdress crafted in 14th-century Japan during the Kamakura period, now housed in the Tokyo National Museum. The crown is worked in repoussé and chasing techniques, symmetrically adorned with floral and karakusa arabesque motifs, then finished in gold. Shrine maidens wear it during kagura rituals, decorating it with blossoms and branches to invoke the vitality of plants.
