Lore

Since at least the 14th century BC, the Shang Dynasty in China used turtle shells and animal bones for divination, with diviners inscribing the results beside the fire-cracked lines. These records formed the earliest mature system of Chinese characters. The oracle bones are mostly brown and yellow in appearance, with characters that are thin and sharp like a knife. The content covers rainfall, war, and sacrifices, with the direction of the cracks determining major decisions for the dynasty over hundreds of years.
