Hair was commonly included as a burial item in Viking graves and was considered to possess magical qualities, stored separately from the deceased. According to the Edda, Loki once cut off the long hair of the harvest goddess Sif while she slept. To atone for his offense, he commissioned dwarven craftsmen to create a wig for her.
