Beginner Guide
Roadmap and systems primer from the official-style compendium: account progression, Nyanners, gear, Monsterlings, and combat fundamentals.
0. Intro
Mongil: Star Dive is not overly complex—especially if you already play gacha titles like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves. Start with the Introduction and Game Contents pages for a full picture of modes and activities.
1. Early account progression
Beginner-friendly roadmap for a strong start.
Complete the tutorial
The summoning system (Recruit) unlocks very early—ideal for rerolling if you want a strong start. Early pulls mainly come from:
- Pre-registration rewards
- Mail rewards
- Beginner missions
Prioritize the main story
Story progress should be your top priority. It unlocks:
- Game modes
- Upgrade systems
- Farming stages
Manage your Keys (stamina)
- Use stamina efficiently.
- Spend primarily on Dungeon stages.
- Avoid over-farming low-level stages with poor rewards.
Build and upgrade your core team
Focus resources on a small roster of 3–5 units.
- Prioritize your main damage dealer first.
- Invest in leveling, equipment, and skill upgrades.
- Avoid spreading resources too thin early on.
Complete daily activities
- Finish daily missions.
- Engage weekly content for higher-value rewards.
- Spend shop currency on high-value resources (upgrade materials, summon currency).
2. Nyanners and Monster Codex
You can choose your own name or keep the default, Nyanners.
Like characters, Nyanners starts at level 1 and can reach level 60. Each level improves odds of capturing higher-grade and higher-level monsters. Level up by:
- Capturing monsters
- Earning Monster Codex rewards
The Monster Codex lists monsters you have captured at least once; more copies of the same monster unlock more detail. Use Habitat Info to see where monsters appear.
3. Level up characters
Use Experience Books to level characters. Maximum level is tied to Account Level; at the current cap, raise it via Breakthrough.
Duplicates strengthen characters through the game’s Awakening system.
4. Artifacts
Artifacts come in 3★, 4★, and 5★ grades with various effects.
- Enhance using materials or duplicate copies of the same artifact.
- Max enhancement level can be raised via Breakthrough.
- Fusion Level — raised by spending duplicate artifacts; boosts Fusion Effects.
5. Equipment
Four slots: Headgear, Chest, Gloves, Footwear. Grades 1★–5★.
- 4★ and 5★ can grant Set Effects when enough pieces from the same set are equipped.
- Enhance with materials or duplicates; enhancement raises stats.
- At certain enhancement levels: new substats may appear or existing substats may increase.
6. Skills
Basic Attack
Standard attacks, no cooldown. Some characters get stronger variants by holding the basic attack button.
Special Skill
Mid-impact abilities on cooldown. Some have held variants that use the character’s unique resource; some specials can be chained.
Ultimate Skill
Powerful skills with their own gauge, filled by landing attacks and applying status effects to enemies or allies.
Switch Skill
Triggered when entering or leaving the field—useful for counters and keeping team flow.
Passive Trait
Defines each character’s role and identity.
7. Monsterlings
Basic information
- Equipping a Monsterling grants its effects to that character.
- Enhance with materials or other Monsterlings for stronger stat boosts.
- Duplicates can increase Rank and Rank Effects.
- New Monsterlings roll Traits by grade; traits can be changed via Combining.
- If the character’s level is below the Monsterling’s, the Monsterling’s level scales down to match.
Combine
- Combine two Monsterlings to create a new one—both parents are consumed.
- Child inherits appearance from one parent.
- Small chance of a Mutation.
- Traits can inherit or randomize; Combine Consumables can guarantee trait transfer.
Link Chain
- Unlocks hidden potential for certain Monsterlings.
- Craft a Link Chain and equip it; the Monsterling assists in combat.
- Enhance the Link Chain to improve effectiveness.
8. Combat tips
Elemental weakness
Hitting enemies with their elemental weakness deals increased damage. Use the Monster Codex to check weaknesses.
Special attacks (enemy)
Yellow glow — Time a Dodge Skill or Switch Skill to Counter, briefly neutralizing the enemy. A successful Switch counter resets all teammates’ Switch Skill cooldowns.
Red glow — Counters do not apply; you must evade.
Staggering and bursts
Landing attacks on bosses fills the Stagger Gauge. Destroyer units fill it faster. When full, use Nyanners’ Skill to stagger the boss. While staggered, trigger a Burst for extra damage. Assassin units deal much more damage during stagger and burst.
