Early progression overview

Intro

Mongil: Star Dive isn't a particularly complex game—especially if you've already played gacha titles like Genshin Impact or Wuthering Waves.

We recommend starting with the Introduction, Game Contents, and General Info sections to get a solid understanding of the core systems.

Here's a beginner-friendly roadmap to help you get the best possible start.

Main story progression

In-game screen offering Path of Dawn (Casual) for story-focused play or Path of Dusk (Recommended) for action-focused play.

Progressing through the main story should be your top priority.

There are two difficulty modes: Casual and Recommended. You can switch between them at any time, and rewards are identical. Early on, we strongly suggest playing on Casual to progress faster and unlock content more efficiently.

Switch to Recommended only after completing the main story.

Recruit

The summoning system (Recruit) unlocks very early. This is a good time to reroll if you're aiming for a strong start.

Farming (Paths)

After just a few minutes of gameplay, you'll unlock Paths, the main farming mode for materials.

It's important to optimize your resource usage from the start:

  • Focus only on Character EXP farming early on—it offers the best value for stamina spent.
  • Ignore Monsterling and Equipment upgrades at the beginning; they won't be as useful yet.
  • Later, you'll unlock Path Breakthrough, which is essential for upgrading characters at levels 20, 30, 40, and 50.
  • All other Paths can safely be ignored until at least the first three chapters of the story.

As you progress, higher difficulties unlock and rewards increase significantly. If you can, play actively during the early hours to unlock better rewards sooner for the same stamina cost.

Special event

Limited-time special events feature their own shop.

  • Early on, focus on clearing story stages (quick to complete and high special currency).
  • Spend that currency in the event shop on limited, non-farmable items such as:
    • Legendary Experience Books
    • Breakthrough Selectors

Ideally, clear out the shop before the event ends. In the early game, once you have the key items above, it's often better to return to progressing the main story.

Build and upgrade your core team

It's highly recommended to build at least one strong character for each element, preferably Destroyer or Assassin, especially for bosses in later story stages.

In addition to standard stats like ATK and Crit Rate, each role has unique scaling stats:

  • Fighter: increases damage based on nearby enemies and allies.
  • Destroyer: increases Stagger damage dealt to bosses.
  • Assassin: increases damage against enemies that are airborne, knocked back, staggered, or knocked down.
  • Support: increases ally damage when switching out, and boosts own basic attacks and support skills.

These special stats are the main stat on Footwear, but can also appear on Monsterlings and other gear.

The toughest battles have a time limit, and bosses combine complex patterns with short windows where you need a burst of damage—plan your roster around roles and elements accordingly.

Link Chain and Monsterling

While exploring maps, capture as many Monsterlings as possible. This helps:

  • Level up Nyanners
  • Increase capture chances
  • Improve odds of obtaining higher-grade Monsterlings
  • Unlock new Link Chains

Link Chains are important in battle: they provide powerful active effects under specific conditions and make equipped Monsterlings even more valuable.

To unlock Link Chains, you need to obtain Elite Monsterlings:

  • Rare enemies clearly marked on the map
  • Can also be hunted via the Request Board

Monsterlings also have Traits that significantly alter their effects—a key part of optimization, especially at higher levels.

At the start you can use one Monsterling per character; at maximum level you can use up to three, so there is a lot of room to customize your build.

Monsterlings

Conquest and Dimensional Rift

These modes represent the core of the endgame. Entry tickets reset weekly. Both have dedicated shops where you trade tokens from runs for valuable materials.

Conquest

  • Fight bosses encountered during the story.
  • Rewards include materials for crafting top-tier gear—or, if you're lucky, the gear itself.

Dimensional Rift

  • A more complex mode with seasonal stages and a scoring system for rewards.
  • Includes multiple battle stages, a final boss, and puzzle events, buffs, and other mechanics.

General tips

  • Don't forget Manon's Guidebook: it acts as an extended tutorial and gives excellent rewards.
  • Add friends to send and receive daily Keys.
  • Always equip Artifacts that match the character's role, or their effects won't activate.
  • While exploring, gather plants and mine minerals for cooking and crafting—it helps later.
  • Gear of rarity 3★ and above comes from crafting; the game shows which enemies drop required materials.
  • Cooking matters: buffs can make a big difference on difficult stages.

TL;DR

  • Focus on the main story first—play on Casual to progress faster; switch to Recommended later.
  • Reroll early when Recruit unlocks if you want a strong start.
  • Farm smart: prioritize Character EXP; ignore early Monsterling and gear investment.
  • Unlock Path Breakthrough for level caps at 20–50.
  • Events: clear quick stages, grab key shop items, then return to story.
  • Balanced team: at least one strong unit per element; favor Destroyer/Assassin for bosses.
  • Role stats: Fighter, Destroyer, Assassin, and Support each scale differently—Footwear and Monsterlings matter.
  • Capture Monsterlings to unlock Link Chains and increase power.
  • Endgame: Conquest and Dimensional Rift weekly for gear and high-value rewards.
  • Basics: Manon's Guidebook, friends for Keys, role-matched Artifacts, gather materials, cooking buffs.
